Wanted: fellow travellers for a fascinating musical adventure! In 10 days of concerts, chamber recitals, educational events and more, the Vancouver Inter-Cultural Orchestra (VICO) presents virtuoso soloists from Turkey, Armenia, Uzbekistan, Lebanon and Iran, and visiting Canadian ensembles from Victoria and Montreal, alongside talented musicians and composers from right here in BC. On the bill: traditional, contemporary and intercultural music of the Middle East and Canada: rollicking folk tunes transmitted aurally over centuries, modern contemporary classical works for small and large ensembles, brand new intercultural pieces by Canadian composers…and more!

The Araxes (or Aras) River starts in Turkey, and flows along the border with Armenia into Azerbaijan, where it continues along another border (with Iran), until it joins the Kura and together they reach the Caspian Sea. As major rivers often are, the Araxes is a boundary marker, but also a roadway, where tributaries, travellers, cultures and ideas meet and are swept along on voyages of discovery. The Vancouver Inter-Cultural Orchestra’s Notes From the Araxes Basin Festival takes the river’s journey in musical form. This is music without borders - guaranteed to expand horizons and inspire the imagination.
