Laurie M. Landry is a Vancouver-based artist who incorporates her experiences as a deaf person with her love for landscapes, real and imagined.
Laurie M Landry is a Canadian artist based in Vancouver BC. Landry grew up in several towns in British Columbia, and became interested in art at a young age. She would later develop her talents locally at Emily Carr University as well as abroad in Paris. Through this varied artistic training, Landry has experimented and worked with a number of styles and mediums, from graphic design, to painting, and from traditional old master drawing to more abstract creations.

2016’s Isolation is Landry’s latest series. Sublime, bold colours and stunning shapes combine to provide the audience with a captivating visual experience. Landry’s works also delve into other senses, notably sound – Landry herself was born deaf. The series is inspired by her experience with disability; shown through the artist’s representation of the isolation associated with deafness. The artist visually incorporates into her work everyday sounds, sound waves, audiology test results, and other audio stimuli. The barren landscapes and lack of figurative forms reinforce the feelings of seclusion and remoteness.

Landry’s Isolation will be on display from May 25th to June 6th at The Beaumont Gallery. Please join us at the gallery for a special opening reception on May 26th, 2016, from 7-9 pm. Cash bar for drinks will be available.
