This summer, Carousel Theatre for Young People’s annual Teen Shakespeare Program takes on the wit and romance of Shakespeare’s comedy, Much Ado About Nothing, set in the electric 1970’s. Despite their best efforts, Beatrice and Benedict are falling in love while Hero and Claudio’s young romance hits a speed bump. Mayhem, misunderstanding and betrayal ensues, but love prevails in this funky favourite.

The Teen Shakespeare Program stages outdoor, all ages productions on beautiful Granville Island with an audience village, concession, and activities for the kids! Admission is FREE but seating is limited, so advance reservations are available for $5 per seat.

Actor, director and veteran instructor Mike Stack leads a talented cast of teen actors, ages 13-18. Much Ado About Nothing features Sammi Anderson, Bronwen Bente, Tom Catyr Todd, Demelza Caverly, Tiffany Chen, Atticus Cseh, Isaac George-Hotchkiss, Fiona Goldberg, Noah Heyl, Daisy Hulme, Sean Mawhinney, Isaac McAndless-Davis, Fox Mutual, Patrick Reynolds, Alana Shaw, and Darquise St. Germain. Kayla Dunbar (Assistant Instructor), Kiara Lawson (Costume Designer), Ashley Noyes (Program Manager) and Brendan Agnew (Assistant Stage Manager/Props Coordinator) complete the creative team.

ABOUT THE TEEN SHAKESPEARE PROGRAM —For 26 summers, Carousel Theatre for Young People’s Teen Shakespeare Program has been providing pre-professional theatre training to teens 13-18 in an intensive six-week program. During the program, teen actors are treated as professional artists and receive training in voice, movement, and text analysis toward a fully-staged public performance. The program provides an opportunity for participants to enhance their performing abilities and further their development as emerging artists while providing the community with free and accessible theatre.
