The Vancouver International Flamenco Festival presents the local premiere of Mercedes Amaya Company ‘La Winy’, September 16 & 17, 2016, 8pm at the Vancouver Playhouse. Led by the niece of legendary Gypsy flamenco dancer, Carmen Amaya, this ensemble hailing from Spain and Mexico will showcase the rich and vibrant Gitano roots of flamenco in Templanza. With fervent palmas
(hand clapping), fierce footwork, and haunting voz afillá (Gypsy style vocals), Mercedes and her company will dazzle as each member embodies duende, the spirit of flamenco. On September 16, the evening will open with Saskatoon’s ¡ARTE! Flamenco in De Cal, Canto y Arena. On September 17, Vancouver’s Flamenco Rosario will start the night with Flamenqueando.
