René Lussier is back in Vancouver for the premiere of his new work We Will See and an exclusive performance with Hard Rubber Orchestra! The prime mover on Quebec’s creative music scene will join John Korsrud’s 18-piece jazz powerhouse at the SFU’s Goldcorp Centre for the Arts on Saturday, October 1, 2016.

Hard Rubber Orchestra will premiere Lussier’s new work as well as excerpts from “Le Vaisseau d’Or”, a piece the composer wrote for the Orchestra almost 20 years ago. The program will include an opening group of Vancouver's world-class improvisers: cellist Peggy Lee, pianist Paul Plimley, drummer Dylan van der Schyff and JP Carter on trumpet and electronics.

Known for his quirky and humorous “Zappa-esque” style of composing, the Montreal-born Lussier is one of the leading figures of musique actuelle, a term that derives from a fusion of jazz, rock, classical and improvisation. The inventive musician has collaborated extensively with Fred Frith, Jean Derome, and is a co-founder of Ambiances Magnétiques, one of the largest and most active experimental music labels in Canada.
