The sixth annual Hapa-palooza Festival runs for the month of September 2016, including a month long Hybrid Identity Art Exhibit at the Vancouver Public Library, Central Branch, and three days of free community programming welcoming all from Sept. 23-25th:

Fri., Sept. 23rd, 2016: Hip Hapa Hooray Awards

Our festival gala and awards night, with performances, music, hapa-tizers and drinks. *Please register for free entry at this link! CBC Studio 700, downtown Vancouver, 7-9pm

Sat., Sept. 24th, 2016: Hapa-palooza Family Day

Hapa Family Day in the Park: Our family afternoon returns with live music and dance performances, face-painters, henna, balloons, community art project, and photo-booth. Granville Island Picnic Pavilion, 1-4pm

Culture Remix - Hapa-palooza Art Station: Families are invited to take part in an interactive art station where we mix and remix the world’s cultures! Free. All ages welcome. ArtStarts Gallery, 808 Richards St (map)

Sun., Sept. 25th, 2016: Hapa-palooza Education Day

We are pleased to offer two writing workshops and a panel discussion on mixed heritage and hybrid identity.

Story Through the Body - Writing Ourselves: Free Yoga Writing Workshop for Women (Ages 16+). Author Maria T. Allocco infuses beginner yoga poses with writing prompts to help participants discover personal truth and creative content through the body. ArtStarts Gallery, 808 Richards St, 10:30-11:30am

Family as Inspiration: Fiction workshop with author Simon Choa-Johnston. VPL Central Branch from 12:15 to 1:15pm

Writing from Within- Memoir and Identity Panel Discussion: Join four authors Shaughnessy Bishop-Stall, Betsy Warland, Naomi Wakan, and Brandy Lien-Worrall. VPL Central Branch from 2:40 to 3:40pm
