The Canadian Music Centre in British Columbia (CMC BC) presents the Murray Adaskin Celebration, the first event of its inaugural concert series, October 14, 2016, 7pm at the Murray Adaskin Salon (837 Davie Street). Hosted in CMC BC’s brand new 40-seat black box theatre, this intimate evening honours one of Canada’s most beloved composers, Murray Adaskin. With the program, curated by Artistic Advisor and locally renowned composer Rodney Sharman, audiences will hear a delightful selection of Adaskin repertoire performed by acclaimed artists: Jessica Tovey (soprano), Catherine Fern Lewis (soprano), Chiharu Linuma (piano), Gwen Seaton (bassoon), Joan Blackman (violin), and Nick Anderson (French horn). In addition to fascinating anecdotes shared by Sharman who studied closely with Adaskin, the concert will shed light on the composer’s life and genius opening with the world premiere of a Murray Adaskin documentary from award-winning filmmaker and producer John Bolton.
