Fourteen-year-old Felix Xaba dreams of becoming a saxophone player like his late father. He is determined despite the disdain of his church-going mother, who is firmly of the opinion that jazz is the devil’s music. His world is turned upside down when he wins a scholarship to attend an elite private school. Wanting to prove himself, he auditions for the school concert, but he can't read music. His father’s former band mates, without his mother’s knowledge, give Felix a crash course on the saxophone and teach him about his musical roots and his father's past.
