Fear is palpable in Vancouver artist David A. Haughton's striking paintings of dark, storm-tossed seas, and wind-torn landscapes. Yet, this fear, reflecting threats to BC's natural environment and the frailty of life, is tempered by hope reflected in delicately lit skies and warm light reflected off otherwise turbulent seas. It is exactly these sentiments - fear, hope and longing - that inspired Haughton's latest exhibition of 27 paintings, which opens November 24 at the Visual Space Gallery, 3352 Dunbar St., Vancouver.
