HAIR - an exhibition of photographs by Ryan Walter Wagner

VANCOUVER, BC – January 3, 2017 – Vancouver artist & photographer Ryan Walter Wagner announced today that his photographic series “Hair” will exhibit at The Beehive in Vancouver, BC. Ryan Walter Wagner has been exhibited both nationally and internationally and is known for his striking portraiture and poignant street photography. The Beehive has selected Wagner’s work for a solo show January - March 2017, opening reception at 8:00pm on Saturday January 21, 2017.

In his ongoing series “Hair”, Wagner explores the idea of a faceless portrait. Removing a common identifier from a portrait by obscuring faces with hair. The viewer may be left unsure if the subject is male or female, if the photo is taken from the front or back or above all, wondering “who is this person?”, thus in turn adding entirely new aspects to the photograph. In addition to the mystery of the subject, Wagner bathes his images in muted colours and very selective depth-of-field creating breathtaking portraits.

Ryan Walter Wagner lives and creates his art in Vancouver and has been working as a photographer there and abroad for more than 8 years. Regarding this art show Wagner stated “I am very excited to share these new images of disorienting portraits. What better place to showcase my “Hair” series than a hair salon!”
The Beehive is the perfect venue for this exhibit. Primarily a hair salon, The Beehive has been a supporter of the Vancouver art scene since 2010. Showcasing many established and emerging artist from Vancouver and abroad. They have exhibit openings every 3 months and the work stays up for 90 days. Openings start at 8:00pm and go until late with hor d’oeuvre’s and a cash bar. The Beehive is located at 3905 Fraser St., Vancouver, BC.
