Join HOT JAZZ JAM as we celebrate Django Reinhardt's legacy on his 107th Birthday with swinging Gypsy jazz, hot jam sessions & fun dancing! This JAM will be hosted by Don Ogilvie & DJANGOESQUE with Gypsy jazz musicians around Vancouver making guest appearances.

DJANGO REINHARDT was one of the most celebrated jazz guitarist. Emerged from Europe in 1930s, he forged an entirely new style of 'hot' jazz guitar technique. With violinist Stéphane Grappelli, Reinhardt formed the Paris-based Quintette du Hot Club de France in 1934, today considered one of the most original bands in the history of recorded jazz.

Djangoesque began as Don and Kenny Ogilvie’s 2009 reformation of Ogilvie brothers’ bands of the past. The music is based on the “Gypsy Jazz” style of Django Reinhardt but goes in many directions including swing and mainstream jazz, Latin and even Japanese! And to the band’s surprise, the music has proven to be danceable despite the non-use of drums. Djangoesque has played swing dances, jazz festivals and Django’s 100th birthday celebration in 2010.
The band at this time includes bassist Casey Tolhurst and guitarist Michael Dunn, both of whom have played with Don Ogilvie since the early 1970’s. Rounding out the ensemble is the legendary Jack Stafford on clarinet and sax.
