The Lanterns in the Garden 2017 sets during the period of the Chinese Yuanxiao Festival(also known as the Lantern Festival), the end of the Chinese New Year. It will be a valuable opportunity for visitors to explore the culture, the beauty and the history of Asia. The 3-day event will take the visitors to travel back in time, and enjoy an authentic, traditional Yuanxiao Festival (the Lantern Festival) in the first Chinese garden built outside of China.
This year the event will be hosted at the Dr. Sun Yat Sen Chinese Garden. During the event, the entire garden will be covered with traditional Chinese lanterns and special theme lanterns ordered, made and shipped from China.
Along with the lantern show across the Chinese Garden, the event also features a spacious yard with vendors and food trucks where visitors are exposed to a taste of Yuanxiao and other Asian delicacies.
The most special part of the event is the Artist Showcase. We invited Master Gu (Chinese National Intangible Cultural Heritage Successor), a well-known lantern master from China to the festival to teach the visitors how to make the most authentic Chinese lanterns.
The event also features activities such as solving riddles, square dancing, and wish making etc.. Small gifts will be provided to the lucky guests who solved the riddles.
In addition, documentaries about the Yuanxiao Festival ( the Lantern Festival) and other traditional Chinese culture will be played in the Garden to help the visitors to have a more thorough understanding of the Chinese New Year and the Chinese Culture as a whole.
