Professional a cappella vocal ensemble and three-time Juno Award nominee, musica intima, will celebrate Canadian women in the arts through the ethereal heights and the profound depths of the female voice.

On March 10 at its Womenspiration show, the ensemble will perform a new commission by Canadian composer Jennifer Butler, as well a work by Katerina Gimon who won the Godfrey Ridout category of the 2016 SOCAN Young Composers Competition, and will be accompanied on some pieces by instrumentalist Isabelle Roland (viola) of the Vancouver Opera Orchestra.

Butler’s commission uses the words of Canadian playwright Maria Reva’s short story “Uta’s Escape,” which is featured in The Guardian newspaper as part of Tin House Magazine’s Flash Fridays. It follows the disappearance of a synchronized swimmer at the pool during a training session.

This will be an unforgettable evening! #BeBoldForChange

All ticket holders are invited to a pre-concert chat at 6:45pm with composers Jennifer Butler and Katerina Gimon, and writer Maria Reva.
