“A singer and guitarist who kills it like nobody's business on the slide guitar and who sings like he was born in the Mississippi delta” – Time Out

“The real thang!” – Bootsy Collins

“The new master of the slide guitar” – Montreux Jazz Festival

The Cap Global Roots Series and Rogue Folk Club co-present Jack Broadbent, a blues legend-in-the-making for his unique blend of virtuosic and acoustic slide guitar technique, and poignant folk and R&B-inspired vocals.

Originally from rural England, Broadbent’s distinctive song writing, singing and performance style was indelibly marked by the major blues and folk figures that his musician father, Micky, introduced him to as a child – legends including John Lee Hooker, Peter Green, Jimi Hendrix, Robert Johnson, Joni Mitchell, and Neil Young.

Broadbent’s deeply soulful voice, phenomenal slide guitar licks, mesmerizing improvisational skills and highly memorable onstage warmth, humour and energy have led to a rapid, recent ascent from street busker (usually equipped with only a guitar, an amp and a flask for a bottleneck) to in-demand festival headliner.

With three full-length albums to his name, tens of millions of YouTube viewers and a devoted army of fans, Broadbent’s career is now going full-throttle. After wowing audiences as an opener for Lynyrd Skynyrd, Johnny Hallyday, Robben Ford and Tony Joe White, Broadbent set out on a whirlwind international tour, and has played sold-out shows in New Zealand, Japan, the United States and Canada.

He plays the Cap Jazz Series, co-presented with Rogue Folk at St. James Hall, in advance of his just-announced headlining performance at the TD Victoria International Jazz Festival in June.
