Transfigured Light blends classical and contemporary musical styles in an unusual venue for an incredible experience.

Living composers’ new commissions collide with adventurous works of the late Renaissance in this microtonal vocal and instrumental performance.

This classical approach creatively, and perhaps unsuspectingly, offers effects and manipulation that draw out the themes of death, rebirth, light and life—and it takes place at twilight in Vancouver's Mountain View Cemetery on May 18.

Curated by Redshift Music Society and presented by the Arkora collective, Transfigured Light offers audiences a nine-person vocal-instrumental ensemble that performs the challenging and chromatic motets of Orlando di Lasso (1530-1594), Tomás Luis de Victoria (1548-1611), and Nicola Vicentino (1511 – 1575).

There are also world premiere compositions for voices, and an ensemble that comprises traditional and original microtonal instruments: violin, piano, cello, electric guitar, and percussion, including the Lumiphone; a new instrument.

A performance of "death speaks" by David Lang closes the evening, while a special video introduction by the Pulitzer prize winner, Grammy-award winner, and Academy-award nominee opens the performance.
