Susan Point: Spindle Whorl surveys the expansive career of influential Musqueam artist Susan Point. In this panel, speakers share their knowledge of and appreciation for the art of Susan Point and consider her ongoing influence and legacy. Jim Kew, Cultural Representative for the Musqueam Indian Band, reflects on Point’s life and work through the theme of transition within the traditional Salish paradigm, while filmmaker and artist Dana Claxton speaks from a Hunkpapa Lakota perspective on the role of indigenous woman's art and the importance of Point’s work to future generations of artists. Art historian India Rael Young and Musqueam curator Jordan Wilson consider her wide-ranging oeuvre and multi-disciplinary artistic contributions from printmaking to public sculpture and to expanding the appreciation of Coast Salish cultural expression.
