In the hours following the news that Soviet tanks had entered Budapest, faculty and the student body from the University of Sopron’s Department of Forestry slipped across the border into neighbouring Austria, whereupon the Dean put out an international call for a school that would take them en masse to continue their studies. That school was the University of British Columbia.

"Refuge - Music to celebrate Vancouver’s Refugee Heritage."

The concerts will include original music for tárogató by BC composers (Jeffrey Ryan and Adam Hill) and feature classical Hungarian works with performances by:

Michael Murray and members of Abendmusik.
