THE ORATORIO SINGERS presents its second and final concert of the 2016-2017 season, SACRED AND PROFANE: FRENCH CHORAL MUSIC, at St. Andrew's-Wesley United Church (corner of Nelson and Burrard Streets in downtown Vancouver) on Friday, May 19, 2017, starting at 8:00 p.m.
Choral works to be performed include Camille St.-Saëns’ ethereal Messe de Requiem (Op. 54), sung in Latin. The rest of the programme, sung entirely en français, includes Maurice Duruflé’s Notre Père, Maurice Ravel’s Trois Chansons, Claude Debussy’s Trois Chansons de Charles d’Orléans (Op. 4), Ah, Mon Beau Laboureur and Les Tisserands from Francis Poulenc’s Huit Chansons Françaises, and La Rose Complète and Dirait-On, the two final songs of Morten Lauridsen’s Les Chansons des Roses.
Conductor is Darryl Nixon. Soloists are Benila Ninan (soprano), Melanie Adams (contralto), Martin Sadd (tenor) and Andrew Greenwood (baritone). The 10-piece orchestra includes Nancy DiNovo (violin) - leader, Carolyn Cole (violin), Marcus Takizawa (viola), Heather Hay (cello), David Brown (bass), Lani Krantz (harp), Christopher Robertson (trumpet) and Michael Molnar (organ).
Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 each and are available from choir members, from Sikora’s Classical Records, online at http://oratoriosingersfcm.bpt.me, and at the door.
Underground parking with direct access to St. Andrew’s-Wesley United Church is available on the north side of the lane between the church and the Century Plaza Hotel. Translink bus #2, both northbound and southbound, conveniently stops right in front of the church.
