Dr. Lexchin will speak about how Purdue Pharma promoted OxyContin which helped trigger the opioid crisis and the wave of drug overdoses that currently plague our society.

Dr. Joel Lexchin is an internationally-recognized expert in pharmaceutical policy and Professor Emeritus in the School of Health Policy and Management at York University. An advocate for change in pharmaceutical policy for thirty-five years, he has appeared before parliamentary committees and authored or co-authored over 150 articles about all aspects of how medicines are developed and used.

He is the author of Doctors in Denial: Why Big Pharma and the Canadian Medical Profession Are Too Close For Comfort (2017), and Private Profits versus Public Policy: The Pharmaceutical Industry and the Canadian State (2016).
