Situated in the trendy Kitsilano neighbourhood is Maenam, an upscale eatery in comparison to its counterparts serving the same cuisine. When you walk in, you’ll notice the modern décor and sleek bar—things you don’t find often at traditional Thai food places. Owner and chef Angus An creates authentic Thai dishes with a contemporary twist. Guests will be able to try sharable plates like steamed mussels with lemongrass and Thai basil; green curry of halibut; and Thai green eggplant and pork stir fry. You’ll also find staples like green papaya salad and pad Thai—which can be made vegetarian.
Pair your meal with a Thai beer or one of the crafty Thai-inspired cocktails. Diners will probably have the lingering taste of intense flavours in their mouths, which can easily be cooled off with a refreshing dessert such as Thai iced tea pannacotta or a young coconut sorbet. What’s better than a cold dessert after a spicy meal?
