VIFF 2013 review: The Future
Tough teen Bianca has been orphaned, and when her younger, weaker brother takes in two vaguely sinister bodybuilders to live with them, they convince her to take part in a scheme. She’ll sleep with the rich, aging former Mr. Universe and Hercules movie star Maciste (a wonderfully weathered Rutger Hauer) to find out where he hides his fortune. But in his baroque Rome apartment, Maciste tenderly worships her body and makes her sandwiches—and it starts to feel deceptively like love. Aided by a warped soundscape and a reappearing supernatural light, this bizarre psychological puzzle gets under your skin.
