VIFF 2013 review: The Closed Circuit

(Poland)

    1 of 2 2 of 2

This ominously paced Polish effort posits a near future in which corporate interests and oligarchs use the police and the state to rob each other’s assets. The movie has a cool style that occasionally crosses the border from dispassionate to uninvolving, but it still has its chills—especially when you ponder the lessons that western crooks are probably learning from savvy ex-communists.

      Playhouse, October 2 (3:40 p.m.) and 8 (9:15 p.m.)
