VIFF 2013 review: So Much Water

(Uruguay/Mexico/Netherlands/Germany)

    1 of 2 2 of 2

A divorced father tries his hardest to take his kids on a fun vacation, but their trip to a Uruguayan natural springs resort is a washout. The setting is glum and claustrophobic, set largely in a TV-less one-bedroom cabin—providing ample opportunity for tensions to rise between Dad and his sulky teen daughter. Restrained and cleverly lensed, with ironic humour undercutting every slow-burning scene, Water eventually builds into an engaging coming-of-age tale. But not before a lot of rain has fallen.
