VIFF 2013 review: Objects of Desire

(Canada)

    1 of 1 2 of 1

A shorts package about things and people with a largely ominous pull, this Canadian compendium’s highlights include Trevor Juras’s darkly funny “The Lamp” and Jefferson Moneo’s spooky prairie saga, “Going South”, featuring Shana Dowdeswell, who since died tragically young. Trevor Cornish’s B.C. art store-set “Roland”, and “90 Days”, Timothy Yeung’s tale of a Hong Kong hooker’s first hours on the job, linger too long on points that are effectively made early in the game.
