DOXA 2015 review: The Forecaster

    1 of 2 2 of 2

Can an algorithm predict the future? Martin Armstrong says yes.

Through historical research and more than a little canniness, the economist created a model that has correctly predicted several booms and busts in the global financial system, including the collapse of the Nikkei in 1989 and Russia’s 1998 financial collapse. As a reward for his work, the U.S. government imprisoned Armstrong for seven years on charges of fraud and conspiracy.

Armstrong, who was finally released from prison in 2011, is a genial and compelling interview subject, even when talking about this dark period in his life. Well-worth watching if only to find out what he’s predicting next. Vancity Theatre, May 1 (9 p.m.)
