The Vancouver International Film Festival not only kicks off this year’s edition in New York, it starts way back in the ’50s. Space and time have never been impediments to good storytelling, and opening-gala film Brooklyn—a period piece starring Saoirse Ronan—is as good as it gets, according to the raves coming out of Sundance and Toronto.
Of the 350-plus other movies coming to Vancouver between September 24 and October 9, let’s say it’s not unreasonable to expect the same quality, not to mention journeys near and far. Our coverage, meanwhile, starts in the here and now.
Stay tuned for more on VIFF’s 34th edition in the coming weeks.
