WFF 2013: Tatiana Maslany wins again

      The Straight's cover star Tatiana Maslany won her second Best Performance in a Borsos Competition Film Award as the 13th annual Whistler Film Festival wrapped up on Sunday (December 8).

      The star of opening night film Cas & Dylan was given the same prize last year for Picture Day. Bruce McDonald's The Husband was named this year's winner in the Borsos Competition for Best Canadian Feature Film.

      The Borsos competition jury, comprised of actor Emily Hampshire, producer Luc Déry, and film critic Brian D. Johnson, congratulated The Husband for making them feel "richly uncomfortable."

      Two films coming to Vancouver over the next week were also honoured.

      Lucy Walker's doc The Crash Reel, about snowboarder Kevin Pearce's recovery from traumatic brain injury, was given Best Mountain Film Award. The Crash Reel comes to the Vancity Theatre for a week starting December 13.

      The World Documentary Award went to Jingle Bell Rocks!, about director Mitchell Kezin's obssession with Christmas records. The unmissable film plays at the Vancity on December 16 and at the Rio Theatre the following night (December 17).
