VIFF 2015: Wondrous Boccaccio spins lush tales

    1 of 2 2 of 2

      Wondrous Boccaccio (Italy)

The veteran Taviani brothers return for a tour of the Renaissance writer’s oft-depicted Decameron. They don’t go the degenerate Pasolini route but present two hours of artfully arranged tableaux in lush Italian settings. The effect is that of a Renaissance-y version of Are You Afraid of the Dark?, as 10 attractive young people take turns spinning tales of varying interest, around campfires and in other locations.

Think of it as mildly diverting museum dioramas come to life and you’ll do okay.
