Subversive Continuum continues on

The third season of Continuum is in the bag, but Rachel Nichols isn’t planning on going anywhere soon. The U.S.–born star of the wildly popular, Vancouver-made and -set sci-fi show (133 countries and counting) announced her engagement to local boy Michael Kershaw in December.

In the series—which returns on Sunday (March 16)—Nichols’s character, Kiera, arrives from the year 2077 to take on time-travelling, anticorporate “terrorists” Liber8. She’s desperate to return, but speaking as a new Vancouverite, Nichols finds herself parting with her character’s loyalty to the future.

“I like food, and from what I can tell everything in 2077 is Soy-Moo,” Nichols told the Straight during a recent set visit. “The running water and sunshine thing is also quite nice. If I’m only to pursue getting back to the future for my husband and son, it’s actually quite selfish, given the fact that the future’s pretty crappy. Let’s call a spade a spade here.”

Nichols added that smuggling subversive content into Continuum is “one of our strengths”. On that note, look for an evil company called “Sonmanto” in the new season. Wonder who that’s supposed to be? For more on Continuum, go to www.straight.com.
