Internet addiction is on the rise in China, and Internet detox facilities are growing just as fast.
Israeli filmmakers Shosh Shlam and Hilla Medalia spent four months inside the first of these militarylike centres, interviewing web-obsessed teenagers boasting about their days spent playing games like World of Warcraft. Rehabilitation includes meetings with the families of these addicts, who usually trick their children into the facilities.
With the country’s one-child policy creating a generation of lonely young men, Shlam and Medalia question which came first: the addiction or the dysfunction.
