DOXA 2014 review: Come Worry With Us!

    1 of 2 2 of 2

The music of  Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra provides the powerful soundtrack to the documentary Come Worry With Us! But the film, befitting its unique subjects, isn’t a traditional music documentary.

The movie follows singer and guitarist Efrim Menuck—one of the founders of Montreal’s Godspeed You! Black Emperor—and his partner and bandmate Jessica Moss as they decide to take their toddler Ezra on tour with them.

Serious discussions about the dilemma facing female musicians who choose to start a family, and the financial necessity of touring in the wake of decreased record sales, are interspersed with  footage of the band interacting with young Ezra as he adapts to life on a tour bus.

The result is a poignant documentary that will interest not only Thee Silver Mt. Zion fans, but music aficionados and parents interested in the challenges of balancing family with a passion for the arts.

      Rio Theatre, May 6 (9:15 p.m.)
