After the first two evenings of the Canadian Screen Awards, the results are in: Vancouver boasts some of the most critically acclaimed newscasters in the nation.

The CSAs held the first two award evenings on March 8 and 9 in Toronto.

Also from CBC and Vancouver, Ian Hanomansing of CBC News Network with Ian Hanomansing was named best national news anchor, beating CBC's Peter Manbridge and Heather Hiscox, and CTV's Lisa LaFlamme.

Among other B.C. winners, local filmmaker Jordan Paterson's Tricks on the Dead: The Story of Chinese Labour Corps in WWI for OMNI, which tells the story of how thousands of Chinese workers were secretly transported from Vancouver to the Western Front to bury the dead, collected two awards.

The docudrama won best photography in a documentary program or factual series (Jordan Paterson and Norm Li) and best production design or art direction in a non-fiction program or series (Cole Paterson and Candise Paul).

The final awards evening, hosted by comedian Norm Macdonald, will be presented broadcast on CBC (at 8 p.m.) on March 13. (See Adrian Mack's blog on local nominees for the final awards show.)

Vancouver's Jacob Tremblay, the nine-year-old star of Room who is nominated for best actor and has repeatedly charmed audiences at awards shows, will be one of the presenters.
