Today (March 31), the CBC announced a new round of titles, including five new programs and 10 returning shows, for the Canadian broadcaster's 2016-2017 season.

Among new series set to launch, fans of Republic of Doyle's Allan Hawco will be pleased to see he's back on screen, this time in the dramatic mini-series Caught, as an escapee from a Nova Scotian prison who was serving time for marijuana smuggling. In this adaptation of Lisa Moore's novel, David Slaney (Hawco) takes off to Latin America to find his former partner-in-crime.

Closer to home, The School (working title) captures the daily lives of teenagers at South Kamloops Secondary School.

      Two other series head north.

In fact, one even embodies that in a title.

The docu-series True North Calling follows Arctic inhabitants who mix tradition with technology to survive in the frozen environment.

Meanwhile, the crime-drama series The Council follows two RCMP officers whose investigation of the murder of a respected environmentalist in the Arctic leads them to Ottawa; Washington, D.C.; Copenhagen; and Norway and Russia.

Four in the Morning is a new comedy series that depicts four twentysomething friends living their lives at the aforementioned time. (There's no word yet if Gwen Stefani sings the theme song.)

These shows will join previously announced new shows: Shoot the Messenger, Workin' Moms, Kim's Convenience, and Baroness von Sketch Show.

Among the list of returning titles are Vancouver-shot series: the artist competition series Crash Gallery and the spy thriller The Romeo Section, created by Chris Haddock (Da Vinci's Inquest). Both will start their second season.

      Other returning series include:

      Canada's Smartest Person: Season 3

      Exhibitionists: Season 2

      Heartland: Season 10

      Hello Goodbye: Season 2

      Interrupt This Program: Season 2

      This Life: Season 2

      Murdoch Mysteries: Season 10

      X Company: Season 3

Other renewed titles include This Hour Has 22 Minutes, The Rick Mercer Report, Schitt's Creek, Mr. D, Dragons' Den, Still Standing, Michael: Tuesdays & Thursdays, and When Calls the Heart.
