The nominees for the 2016 Writers Guild of Canada Screenwriting Awards were announced today (April 18), and six British Columbians are among them.

Filmmaker Mina Shum is nominated in the documentary category for Ninth Floor, an investigation into a Montreal university student protest against racism in 1969.

For MOW and miniseries, Doug Barber and James Phillips are up for Kept Woman.

Jennica Harper and Jennifer Siddle are both nominated in the tweens and teens category for Season 2 episodes of Some Assembly Required (Harper for "Rocket With a Pocket" and Siddle, with Cole Bastedo, for "Snappo").

In the children's category, David Elver received a nod for the Pirate Express Season 1 episode entitled "Fountain of Misspent Youth".

The awards ceremony will be held on May 2 in Toronto, and it will also mark the 25^th anniversary of the WGC.
