DOXA 2016 review: Coûte que coûte

(France)

    1 of 1 2 of 1

Though the efforts of a failing catering company’s employees to keep the business afloat are admirable, Claire Simon’s Coûte que coûte would benefit from more context.

Who is Jihad? What inspired a former diplomat to become an entrepreneur? And why, besides a stubborn need to succeed, is he so damn committed to this ready-to-eat catering biz?

These questions remain unanswered as you’re subjected to number-crunching business meetings and the occasional restaurant inventory list. Simon reveals the human side of capitalism—to an extent—but we don’t know enough about the players to actually care whether or not the company goes under.
