CBC 2016-17 season sees return of Steven Sabados, Vancouver's Romeo Section, and more
CBC's 2016-17 fall and winter season programming will maintain a strong Canadian component among the nine new and 25 returning series.
Among the new offerings will be a daytime lifestyle series, to be hosted by Steven Sabados and Jessi Cruickshank, will launch on October 3. Its title and more cohosts are yet to be announced.
Sabados' previous lifestyle show Steven and Chris was cancelled after the death of his partner Chris Hyndman on August 3, 2015.
Other new series this season include:
• Shoot the Messenger, a political crime-thriller about crime reporters and the police
• Pure, a dramatic miniseries about a group of outlaw Mennonites who control one of North America's most effficient drug-trafficking operations
• Kim's Convenience, a comedy based on Ins Choi's stageplay about a Korean Canadian convenience store in Toronto
• Workin' Moms, a comedy starring Catherine Reitman about four working mothers trying to juggle relationships, careers, and being a parent
• This is High School, an indepth look at real life in a B.C. secondary school
• True North Calling, a six-part docu-series following young Canadians who mix modern technology with traditional ways to live on the edge of the Arctic
Among returning shows are is Chris Haddock's Vancouver-shot The Romeo Section is also returning.
Other returning series are hits such as Canada's Smartest Person, Crash Gallery, Dragons' Den, Heartland, Just for Laughs, Mr. D, Murdoch Mysteries, Rick Mercer Report, Schitt's Creek, This Hour Has 22 Minutes, This Life, and X Company.
Long-running news, investigative, and documentary series will be returning as well, including the fifth estate (Season 42), Marketplace (Season 44), and The Nature of Things (Season 56).
