VLAFF 2014: Esther Somewhere shows life after loss

    1 of 2 2 of 2

      Esther Somewhere (Cuba)

Esther Somewhere is the perfect title for anyone looking for a little light, if poignant, entertainment. Fresh from its multiple-prize-winning run at the Los Angeles Latino Film Festival, where it was voted best film, director Gerardo Chijona’s latest tells the tale of two old-timers facing life without the women they loved. One partner has been missing for years, the other has recently died, apparently leaving a secret life behind her. Think of The Sunshine Boys without the vaudeville, and with deep truths and way more sunshine.

      At the Cinematheque, September 5 (3:15 p.m.)
