VIFF 2014: Red Knot a claustrophobic melodrama

    1 of 1 2 of 1

      Red Knot (USA/Argentina)

Mad Men’s Vincent Kartheiser and indie veteran Olivia Thirlby play newlyweds who spend their honeymoon cooped up on a research vessel heading to Antarctica, where the husband’s ambitions—to write a book, the bastard!—get in the way of their marriage.

The real scientists aboard, mouthing academic boilerplate, shouldn’t quit their day jobs, but their dialogue is no worse than that of the main couple, who pout and preen and privately smoke in place of anything resembling human psychology. What remains of the glaciers is nice, however.
