VIFF 2014: Sacro GRA is a memorable endeavour

    1 of 2 2 of 2

      Sacro GRA (Italy/France)

All roads lead to Rome, they used to say, but you have to leave the ring road around the Eternal City to get there.

Social-minded director Gianfranco Rosi sticks to the oddities who live on the outskirts—from aging sex workers with a rundown motor home to a harried paramedic living with his ancient mother and a retired scientist who won’t stop kibitzing while his grown daughter tries to study.

There’s not much to thematically link these characters, who allowed Rosi impressive intimacy, but they are memorable all the same.
