In addition to the Vancouver International Film Festival's new programming streams, there's a new industry-oriented, tech-related element: VIFF Hub.

The Hub is a rebooted version of VIFF Industry that will provide, as Dupuis explained at a September 7 press conference at Vancity Theatre, "for experiences that go beyond film".

VIFF Hub will be comprised of numerous components.

VIFF Industry Exchange (October 3) will focus on the future of business entertainment.

"VIFF Industry Exchange…creates a space for business development opportunities and the digital-entertainment market," Dupuis explained. "It includes keynotes, B2B meetings with development executives, and a series of talks and discussions on what they're buying, how they buy, and where they see things evolving."

Expanded Frontiers in Storytelling: Virtual Reality (October 4) will specifically zero in on virtual reality entertainment, offering first-hand experiences from virtual reality and augmented reality creators, companies, technologies, and distributors.

There'll be a keynote speech by 20th Century Fox Studios futurist Ted Schilowitz, and live demonstrations of HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, and Gear VR.

The inaugural Sustainable Production Forum (October 7) will explore what Vancouver has to offer for sustainable screen-based industry production. Various industry professionals will discuss what is being done and what can be done in this daylong event.

X-Files creator Chris Carter, who is being honoured with the VIFF Industry Builder Award, will be the keynote speaker.

Emerging creators will be the focus of Totally Indie Day (October 8), which "will provide professional development opportunities"

A series of Creator Talks will be held featuring creators and innovators discussing their work in a variety of formats ranging from fireside chats to panel discussions. Among the speakers will be Nirvana the Band the Show creators Matt Johnson and Jay McCarrol, Orphan Black actor Tatiana Maslany,  UnREAL creator Marti Noxon, and skateboarding legend and Abandoned star Rick McCrank with A Skier's Journey creator Jordan Manley.

Music and visuals come together at Late Night at HUB (September 30 to October 8), in which local music acts will be paired with collaborative video experiences.

The full lineup of events will be revealed today at the VIFF website.
