VIFF 2016: Mrs.

(Philippines)

    1 of 1 2 of 1

Filmmaker Adolfo Alix Jr. takes a spare approach to this story of an aging widow seeking to hold on to her inherited family home despite being at odds with her sister (who wants her to sell it).

The death of her communist-guerrilla son haunts her days, and she has other worries: her housekeeper, Delia, is pregnant and about to get married, and her daughter is in a cult. A quiet film that says a lot simply by giving ample room for its characters and story to breathe. Bonus: watch for a Vancouver reference.
