Whistler Film Festival 2016: Lost Solace

In this conspicuously Vancouver-made sci-fi thriller, Andrew Jenkins plays Spence, a smoothly seductive con man who specializes in relieving women of their most treasured possessions.

He also happens to be a psychopath, but thanks to his impulsive gobbling of a new party drug, which is basically MDMA on steroids, he’s suddenly beset with—gasp!—feelings.

That development complicates his plan to help his latest mark’s also-mentally-ill brother kill their rich prick of a father.

Everything unfolds deliberately and with less suspense than you might ask of a psychological thriller, but there are some fine performances, particularly from Jenkins and Charlie Kerr as the unhinged brother, and some very potent visual effects by newcomer Geoffrey Scott Hunt.
