Manchester by the Sea tops Vancouver Film Critics Circle's international awards

      While the winners of the Canadian film categories for the Vancouver Film Critics Circle awards were announced at a ceremony in downtown Vancouver on January 9, the international winners were originally announced on December 19 as well as at the awards event.

      Kenneth Lonergan's Manchester by the Sea led the international categories. The dramatic feature won best film, best actor (Casey Affleck), best supporting actress (Michelle Williams), best director (Lonergan), and best screenplay (Lonergan).

      Isabelle Huppert in Elle

      French actor Isabelle Huppert was named best actress for her role in the French-language psychological thriller Elle by director Paul Verhoeven. Best supporting actor went to Mahershala Ali for Moonlight.

      Maren Ade's German-Austrian comedy-drama Toni Erdmann was named best foreign language film while Kirsten Johnson's memoir Cameraperson was named best documentary.
