Hugo leads the pack with 11 Oscar nominations
Martin Scorcese's 3-D tribute to early filmmaking, Hugo, has captured 11 Academy Award nominations, including best motion picture.
The second-highest number of nominations went to The Artist, a silent film directed by Michael Hazanavicius, which is up for 10 Oscars, including best motion picture.
Stephen Spielberg's War Horse, Tate Taylor's The Help, Bennett Miller's Moneyball, Alexander Payne's The Descendants, Terrence Malick's The Tree of Life, Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris, and Stephen Daldry's Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close rounded out the best-picture nominees.
Best actor nominations have gone to George Clooney (The Descendants), Brad Pitt (Moneyball), Demian Bichir (A Better Life), Jean Dujardin (The Artist), and Gary Oldman (Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy).
The nominees for best actress are Meryl Streep (The Iron Lady), Glenn Close (Albert Nobbs), Viola Davis (The Help), Rooney Mara (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo), and Michelle Williams (My Week With Marilyn).
Comedian Billy Crystal will host the Oscars on February 26 at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood.
