Top movies in Canada, Sept. 18-24: Quebec thriller Détour debuts

The Quebec filmDétour, which will have its English-language debut at the Vancouver International Film Festival (October 6 and 7), debuted on the domestic box office charts at number three during the week of September 18 to 24.

The thriller follows a shy secretary who goes to a small town on the St. Lawrence to present plans for a water park development project. While he faces resistance from the locals, he also falls for a woman with a possessive, aggressive boyfriend.

Meanwhile, De pí¨re en flic rose to the top of the domestic charts again, beating 1981 only marginally.

Expect the Trailer Park Boys: Countdown to Liquor Day to dominate the next box office results as they already pulled in $1.32 million on their September opening 25 weekend.

On the international charts, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs hit the number one position with $3,561,235.
