VIFF 2012 review: The Comedy

(USA)
Comments

Expect walk-outs when audiences realize just how irritatingly unfunny the lead character is in this heavily improvised mess. Hard to believe that Tim Heidecker has his own TV series ( The Tim and Eric Show) based on his sour turn as a Brooklynite getting fat and bitter sitting on his trust fund while people around him at least try to engage with life. None of the human interactions ring true; even if they did, who really needs to see dumb, dull behaviour like this?

Film, like journalism, which apparently you are infamiliar with, is a dangerous thing when it only appeases those who look to it for comfort. In the future you should refrain from calling your narrow, moral outbursts "reviews".

I find this review to be particularly irresponsible, as you give the potential viewer only a lazy and faulty synopsis of a film, that certainly wasn't intended to implore its audience to 'engage with life.' In fact, the scenes in this movie serve to expose a current and very real generation of folks, who actually do behave much like the characters in this film. Movies are mostly made to entertain--yet this film was not made for that reason entirely. Look around you. Swanson and his buddies are everywhere. This review read like it came from a crotchety old fart, who implores those of us who read your opinions, to just call it a day and go watch something from the Disney vault.

Woah this is a pretty bad review. While this isn't your feel good movie of the year, there was a valid sentiment to this movie. Like the guy above me said, maybe you shouldn't do reviews if you feel lazy about it.

Ken Eisner is not a really a film critic... he's just some dude who writes poorly... He's never displayed any aptitude for critical thought... I'm surprised he's still employed.
