VIFF 2012 review: Joffrey: Mavericks of American Dance

A straight-up documentary about a dance history that will be of most interest to those seriously into the art form. With plenty of archival footage and interviews, it builds a profile of a company that really did reinvent ballet “in a very American way”, as one source puts it. From arts-administration woes to artistic controversy to AIDS, it’s an exhaustive portrait.

Granville, October 2 (7:15 p.m.) and 4 (4 p.m.)
