VIFF 2012 review: Mystery
(China/France)
1 of 1 2 of 1
Wuhan certainly has all the makings of a hauntingly heartless film-noir city, and director Lou Ye winkles out every rain-drenched shadow in this stylish study of love, greed, jealousy, and murder among China’s nouveaux riches. Beautifully shot, smartly edited, carefully cast, and written with a deep understanding of the very real dangers that stem from being just a little bit too superficial.
