VIFF 2012 review: In Search of Haydn
(U.K.)
Here, doc maker Phil Grabsky tops his own In Search of films on Beethoven and Mozart, mainly because so much less is known about the amazingly prolific Joseph Haydn and because his subtly subversive music is less celebrated. This is unjustified, according to sharp guests like Simon Rattle and Emanuel Ax, seen discussing, rehearsing, and performing some of Papa Haydn’s most engaging works. You’ll walk out humming, and convinced.
