VIFF 2012 review: Thursday Till Sunday
Sometimes it’s simply the point of view that sets a film apart. In this case, it’s the fact that director Dominga Sotomayor has shot his movie almost entirely from the back seat of an extended family road trip—and from the perspective of a young girl witnessing (and trying to make sense of) the disintegrating relationship of her parents in the front seat. Chile’s bleakly beautiful desert landscapes add to the melancholy mood. Don’t expect big emotion or drama here: dialogue is minimal, and feeling builds from the slightest of glances and unspoken tension.
